Those who have spent any amount of time in San Antonio acknowledge the city as the premier crossroads of art, culture, and vibrant life in South Texas, and the music of its native son, Dan Gonzalez, embraces that. It was from his musician grandfather, Conjunto legend Ismael Gonzalez, that, as a child, Dan inherited his most treasured gift: the craft of song-making.
Dan’s lyrics emote life and living in their truest forms, and allow the audience the space to make whatever meaning of those words they will. His is the kind of storytelling that takes you to other places with each and every rendition. And yet, Dan’s blend of country, rock, blues, and folk is as artful and diverse as the city he calls home. A heart-wrenching, acoustically-strummed ballad like “Between Love and Lies” can be comfortably followed by the up-tempo “This Old Gun” that will move even the most introverted of souls.
The SA Current writes “If you’re into straight-to-the-point, no bullshit Americana that rocks hard and has a soul…the bluesy power ballad ‘Out of Time’ is one of the best local songs.” Since the release of his first album, Long Way Down, and his selection as a finalist in the RiverFest Battle of the Bands, Dan’s been busy building a loyal fan base and playing staple venues such as Sam’s Burger Joint, John T. Floore Country Store, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, and downtown’s Moses Roses. Needless to say, a visit to his shows leave no doubt that this talented artist can easily be the medium for everyone’s story.
Dan is currently recording his upcoming album of new material with producer Frank Lisenbee at Scorpio Productions in Garden Ridge, Texas.
